Hi I'm Beth, I'm about to finish my year as Right Angle’s marketing assistant. Here’s what I thought about the experience.
Coming to the end of my year at Right Angle, I’ve been asked to reflect upon my time here.
I joined in the middle of a pandemic with little to no experience, just a good attitude and a pretty face (that photo really doesn’t do it justice). Now, I’m leaving with far more ability in so many aspects of business.
My role as a Marketing Assistant has been a very diverse one. When I started, I was told it would be ‘self-led’, meaning whatever I took a shine to I could potentially do. On my first day in the studio, I was taken into a meeting with one of our biggest clients. It was quite daunting sitting opposite seven other people, and even though I was primarily there to take notes, I plucked up the courage to speak. It was a great first impression of what working at RA would be like, they allow everyone to get involved. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of being in so many more client meetings, learning how to take briefs, negotiate and present. I think watching someone come away completely satisfied with the effort and the attention to detail the team puts in is one of my favourite parts of the job.
It was a struggle to get to grips with new systems and programmes at first, especially since I was remote, but the whole team was patient and helped me as much as they could. Soon it felt like second nature and my confidence grew so much. I started to build a daily work routine however, no two days are really the same at RA. I found myself helping out with client projects within my first two weeks; writing copy, proof checking work, and even helping to build a website on WordPress.
Learning the RA tone of voice was a game-changer for so many aspects of my role, everything from my social media content and blogs, to emails all improved. Not only did it develop my communication skills but it also gave me a deeper understanding of the company ethos; ‘highly professional with a personal touch’.
My job role changed and evolved as I learnt and developed new skills. Primarily I was focusing on social media management, copywriting and general admin. As time went on, I developed lead generation, sales, and Google Adwords skills. I have become a key point of contact for clients and enquiries. Seeing a business benefit from the services we offer and being blown away by the final result, is definitely what I’ve found to be the most rewarding part of the role.
The RA team are easy-going, professional and positively encourage you to try new things/pitch ideas. They’re always there to help or offer constructive criticism. Working as part of a smaller team, means you get to learn more about all aspects of the company and offers you a collaborative working environment. As long as you’re willing to learn, be proactive and positive, you’ll thrive!
An office dog and pub socials on a Friday, what more could you ask for?
